Project Management

The Engine that Drives the Process.

Overseeing each and every aspect of a project is the role of Project Management. The Project Management operating philosophy utilizes the team approach with members of the team drawn from each of the functional departments. Responsibility for the project resides with the team throughout its duration. The goal of the Project Manager and the team is to complete each project on time, within budget and to deliver the highest quality solution possible. As part of our Quality System, specific procedures have been developed to help guide this process, from the formation of the project team, through installation and servicing.

Project Team Members:

The Project Manager (PM) is the leader of the Project Team and is responsible for the following:

  • Chair the Contract Review Meeting that verifies and establishes our capability to meet the contract requirements, delivery dates, design requirements and quality issues. The PM ensures that any changes and/or clarifications noted during the Contract Review meeting are reflected in appropriate MECO documents.
  • Obtain all required approvals to proceed from management.
  • Establish the Project Team with at least one member from each of the functional departments.
  • Set priorities for the functional departments and establish the project schedule.
  • Chair the Design Review Meeting with functional departments to provide input with respect to customer requirements for the project.
  • Contact the customer and acknowledge receipt of the order, address project schedule, and establish proper communication and documentation exchange protocol.
  • Communicate with the customer throughout the life of the project, as required, to address technical or commercial issues that may arise.
  •  Ensure that any applicable change orders to the contract are properly incorporated into the contract and communicated to the affected functional departments and all project team members.

The Project Engineer (PE) reviews the scope of each project and is responsible for the Engineering Department's activities on the project with respect to objectives and schedules. The PE works closely with the Project Manager throughout the design phase and resolves any engineering issues arising from the process of interpreting the specifications and project scope.

All design output needed to manufacture and test the equipment is provided by the PE to Manufacturing. Throughout the life of the project, the PE ensures compliance with all defined customer requirements. The PE reviews all Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO), initiates required changes to originally defined design output and maintains documented evidence of design changes.

The Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) is responsible for ensuring that all project functions related to Quality Assurance are communicated to and performed by the appropriate department member.

These project functions include inspecting project development, completing specific Validation Records, ensuring the latest product drawings, bills of material and work instructions are provided to Production Personnel. Additional functions include generating Engineering Change Requests when the equipment design output requires modification, and communicating any problems related to quality to the Project Manager.

The Materials Department is responsible for the following Project Team functions:

  • Review material certification requirements associated with the project.
  • Interface with the Engineering Department during the process of selecting components.
  • Expedite any materials identified as having schedule impact.
  • Communicate potential material delivery problems to Project Management as they may arise.
  • Deliver materials to Production Personnel in accordance with the Project Schedule.

The Manufacturing Department representative is responsible for ensuring the following Project Team functions are performed:

  • Review the project scope with the Project Manager to ensure that sufficient manpower is available to perform all functions in the Manufacturing process.
  • Review the scheduling of tasks with the Project Manager, Engineering and Purchasing.
  • Interface with the Project Manager from the initiation of the design process to ensure adequate time is available to prepare specific work instructions that are required.
  • Obtain adequate design output from Engineering needed to manufacture all products.
  • Establish, maintain and adhere to the Production Personnel Manloading Schedule.
