MECO to Construct New Fabrication Facility

MECO announced in June it will build a new fabrication and office facility in Mandeville, La. The 80,000-square-foot facility will create 127 new direct jobs, retain 81 existing jobs and result in 168 new indirect jobs.

MECO creates tailored water purification systems for the pharmaceutical, marine oil and gas and defense industries.  These products purify water by removing salt, other chemicals and harmful bacteria.

Founded in New Orleans more than 80 years ago, the company has expanded to provide the broadest range of purification technologies of any company in the world.  After Hurricane Katrina destroyed its facility, tools and inventory, the company established new locations in Sugar Land, TX, and Covington, La.

“This new facility is an opportunity to substantially increase our production capacity and further improve efficiencies,” said President George Gsell.  “It will position Louisiana at the forefront of one of our most pressing environmental issues – maintaining a supply of fresh water.”

The new location will allow the company to better meet the demands of its customers around the world.  MECO is scheduled to complete work on the new site by the end of 2013.  While the facility is under construction the company will gradually increase employment and continue to add jobs until all 127 positions are filled by 2018.

MECO is a manufacturer of engineered products for water purification serving a multiple of industries.  The company has a history of providing products and services to the US Armed Forces dating as far back as World War II.  The company’s military products include mobile water purification plants, pumps and marine heat exchangers.  MECO is also the world’s leading producer of water purification plants for offshore oil and gas platforms and the biopharmaceutical industry where ultra-pure water is the primary ingredient in the drug manufacturing process.  MECO is a Louisiana based company with manufacturing facilities in Sugar Land, TX and Covington, LA.
