Heat Exchangers

Delivers in the Heat of Battle.

Military heat exchanger design requires expertise in several areas, including heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluids, strength of materials and corrosion, to name a few. Experience with high-temperature gas heat recovery, seawater heating and evaporation/condensation of water are critical to successful integration. The unique requirements for the existing military heat exchangers - such as physical dimensions, materials of construction and shock and vibration resistance - must be considered in all aspects of the design. Utilizing this experience in heat transfer technology, MECO has been a valuable resource for many military programs.

This has provided us with significant experience in design, development, production and program management within the U.S. Navy, Army and other government agencies. For example, MECO designed the heat exchanger for the U.S. Navy 688 Class Nuclear Attack Submarine, and manufactured all systems for that class of submarine. The systems were fabricated from titanium and welded to MIL-STD-278. Similarly, MECO designed and fabricated the heat exchangers (18 each) for the U.S. Navy's AOE-6 Class Fast Escort Ships.
